Why do you want to be Mayor?
I have spent most of my life in Hays County and have witnessed Kyle change from a small, sleepy town to an expansive community of almost 30,000. I want to help preserve what makes Kyle unique while bringing in the best development for our area, including employers offering quality jobs, and amenities that will keep families from driving into Austin for their shopping and entertainment.

Where do you stand on taxes? Would you vote to raise my property taxes?
I believe strongly that keeping property and sales taxes low helps attract both businesses and homebuyers to our city. I also believe strongly in fiscal responsibility and would not approve any new construction that would lead to higher taxes without the approval of the people through a bond election.

What will you do to help our traffic congestion in Kyle?
Thanks to heavy investment from both the city and the county, Kyle will soon have much needed relief from traffic congestion. The 2008 Hays County Road bond package will bring new I-35 bridges, frontage roads, an extension to F.M. 150, and the expansion of Dacy Lane. Kyle has also started development of a new Master Transportation Plan, which will prioritize our most underserved roads for repair and improvement. It is my intention as Mayor to start implementing the recomendations of the new Transportation Plan as soon as possible.

Do you have strategies for continuing Kyle's economic success during the current recession?
Kyle needs to attract small businesses and other unique enterprises in addition to big box retail and manufacturing to ensure a diverse economy that will remain strong even during recessions. We also need to focus on keeping our tax rate competitive with our neighbors, which means we have to stop increasing our debt load and decrease spending.

Do you support building the proposed new recreation center?
I, along with many others, appreciate the benefits Kyle would receive from building a new recreation center, but I cannot support the addition of $20 million of debt to our city's budget. The City Council must be responsible in our spending, and not promote new buildings without first finding a sensible way to fund them.

You appear to be very young. What makes you think you know enough to be Mayor of Kyle?
I believe a mayor must have energy, commitment, drive, and experience to be successful. Through my time serving on the City Council and on local and regional organizations, as well as through my graduate courses in public administration, I have gained crucial knowledge on how to run a city. But more valuable is my experience from years of living in Hays County and my intimate knowledge of the city, its residents and its history.
